1. Thermal conductivity: As a thermal insulation material, the thermal conductivity should be as small as possible. Generally, the thermal conductivity should be less than 0.14W/m*K. As a cold insulation material, the requirements for thermal conductivity are higher.

2. Bulk density: The bulk density of thermal insulation materials should generally be less than 600kg/m. Materials with small bulk density generally have a small thermal conductivity coefficient, but at the same time their mechanical strength is also reduced, so they must be selected reasonably.
3. Mechanical strength: To prevent the insulation material from deformation and damage under its own weight and external force, its compressive strength should be no less than 3kg/cm.
4. Water absorption: When the insulation material absorbs water, it will not only greatly reduce the insulation performance, but also accelerate the corrosion of metal, which is very harmful. Therefore, it is necessary to choose thermal insulation materials with low water absorption.
5. Heat resistance and operating temperature: Insulation materials with different heat resistance properties should be selected according to the temperature conditions of the place of use. The "maximum operating temperature" is the basis for the heat resistance of insulation materials.
